The matcha

What is ceremonial grade?

The top grade of matcha: first-harvest leaves, shaded before picking and stone ground into a fine powder. It's smoother and less bitter than lower grades.

Why is Coucou so dark green?

That's the whole point. No more milky matcha. We pick the boldest matcha in our blind taste tests so the flavor stands out instead of disappearing into your drink.

What's in it?

Just matcha green tea powder. No sugar, no fillers, nothing added. It's naturally gluten free.

How much caffeine is in it?

About 60 to 70 mg per 2g serving, along with L-theanine, an amino acid found naturally in tea.

Making it

How should I drink it?

However you like. Our favorite is floating it on cold coconut water. It's also great over milk and ice, or whisked straight with hot water. Find more ideas in our recipes.

What water temperature should I use?

Hot but not boiling, about 175°F (80°C). Boiling water can make matcha taste bitter.

How many drinks are in a tin?

At 2g per drink, the 40g tin makes about 20 and the 80g tin makes about 40.

Storing it

How should I store my matcha?

Keep the lid on tight and store it somewhere cool and dark, away from heat and sunlight. Once opened, it tastes best within one to two months.

Orders

Which tin should I get?

The tiger tin is our bold everyday matcha for coconut water, milk or anything you mix. The clean tin (Straight Ceremonial) is for whisking straight. Not sure? Start with the tiger tin.
